Kinja'd!!!

I was planning on applying for the Infiniti Performance Engineering Academy this year and the deadline is May 27, 2015. What I didnt realize was that it was GMT not EST. So instead of submitting my application an hour early im 3 hours late. Lesson learned i suppose.

I hope they’re still doing this when I’m in college. What’s your major?

Right?! Unfortunately i found out about it 2 days ago and had to study for a test this morning. Thats just the way the cookie crumbles i guess.

Mechanical engineering. My best advice is to learn CAD and get really good at it. Thats how i got my foot in the door at the companies i have interned at.

I’ve used Inventor and have AutoCAD on my laptop but haven’t used it at all. Probably gonna take a CAD class my senior year of HS (up coming year) and major in MechEng most likely.

Oh, man I hate CAD. I mean, I’m not bad at it, I’ve done a bunch of stuff on Catia (and Inventor and Solidworks before). But I can’t see myself spending my days in front of a computer doing CAD work, or other FEA/CFD stuff.

I started on solidworks in high school. CAD is extremely useful not only for jobs but projects too. If you want to join a project team in college you'll probably end up having to get good at CAD. Where are you thinking of going?

Working with catia is enough to make anyone hate CAD!! In my experience doing CAD all day isn't that bad at all. It's not like you are mindlessly staring at a screen all say. You are constantly thinking and problem solving. I did it for a whole summer and it was my favorite job by far. To each his own.

I still don’t understand how they managed to get Catia used by most of the Automotive and Aero industry... Maybe it’s a French thing, I don’t know... My school was actually doing some tryouts for the V6 when it came out, we worked a bit on it, but quickly reverted back to the V5 for the more serious part of our assignments.

I’ll hopefully be able to find work in a position that puts me as close to the final product as possible, when I graduate at the end of the year. Shouldn’t be too hard with my degree (I’m also doing Mechanical Engineering, currently doing doing my master in NZ. But since the French education system is a bit different, I got quite a broader education. Like an engineering degree is always a masters degree, and I studied mechanical, power and industrial engineering, as well as material science and project management).
